BLAKE SHELTON KICKS OFF 2016 WITH PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD FOR FAVORITE MALE COUNTRY ARTIST
Fresh off #1 "Gonna," Warner Music Nashville star feels love from fans as he prepares for 2016 tour kickoff in February
NASHVILLE, TN –(January 7, 2016)- Country music superstar Blake Shelton’s run of #1 singles is due to his fans. So are the high ratings for his hit television show “The Voice.” Now Shelton has something else to thank his fans for: a People’s Choice Award.
The Warner Bros. Records/Warner Music Nashville recording artist won Favorite Male Country Artist on Wednesday night’s broadcast, by doing what he loves most, singing country music. This marks his first People’s Choice Award.
“I’m telling you I’m completely shocked and blown away and so happy and honored - and for one reason, and that’s because I know this is 100 percent fan-voted and there’s no politics involved,” Shelton told fans in a video after winning the award. “So thank you so much to the fans. Thanks for taking the time to even vote. I know that’s probably a pain sometimes so I don’t take it for granted and I love y’all very much.”
The People’s Choice Award is not the only trophy Shelton’s nominated for this winter. He’s up for a Grammy Award at the Feb. 15 ceremony in Los Angeles, sharing a nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the “Lonely Tonight” duet with label mate Ashley Monroe.
Three days later he kicks off the Blake Shelton presented by Gildan tour on Feb. 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The 11-date run includes a two-night stand at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with fellow Warner Bros. artist Chris Janson opening.
And in the midst of the tour, Shelton starts his 10th season on NBC’s “The Voice” on Feb. 29. He’s also set to host Nickelodeon’s slime-filled Kids’ Choice Awards on March 28.
Shelton celebrated his third No. 1 in 2015 last month when “Gonna,” a new bonus track from his hits collection Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits, joined “Sangria” and “Lonely Tonight” as Shelton’s 14th, 15th and 16th consecutive No. 1s, extending the modern country music record run that began with “Hillbilly Bone.” All 21 of Shelton’s chart-topping songs are on Reloaded, available at iTunes and all major retailers.
