He revisited them later that morning…by the end of the day had completed the song…and within two weeks, he somewhat reluctantly performed it live for the first time ever – in front of a national audience on the 35th annual CMA Awards – having found the words to describe the full spectrum of emotions people had experienced since September 11 by asking “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”
